Our Tiny home on wheels Approval

In 2022 we went on a holiday to a remote town in Tasmania and stayed in a tiny home on wheels in the forest. It exceeded our expectations. We walked into the tiny home and it was like we were stepping back in time. The wood fire heater was the first thing we spotted. Music from the 1950’s was playing with the speaker hidden inside an old wooden cabinet. The kitchen had a beautiful timber finish with a slow drip coffee machine on the bench awaiting us for the next morning. Into the bathroom was a bath that looked out over the forest and under the stairs was a writing table with an antique chair. The table held a beautiful drop of Port with a chocolate to compliment the comforts of reading a book on the inviting sofa.

Up the stairs was a cosy loft which provided high ceiling views of the tiny home main space below us.

By the end of our stay I couldn’t stop thinking that I needed this experience in my life more often.

We have a family farm on 40 acres. Perfect I thought, we will put one there. This is where the nightmares began. Without going into detail, 6 Months of attempts to reason with the council and navigating through outdated regulations it seemed our tiny home dream was impossible. The land which could beautifully accomodate the tiny home cabins was knocked back before it even began.

This was until one council in Australia created a new policy to accomodate the new innovative tiny homes on wheels. I pounced. Immediately I looked in this pristine area for land! And I found it. Affordable and pristine just near the beach.

Here is our story from start to finish getting approval for a tiny home on wheels as the first primary residence on a residential block connected to mains in Australia. (See the bottom of the article for 10 steps to your tiny home dreams).
